We had them build a 1300 sq/ft fully functioning guest house (complete kitchen, two bedrooms, two baths, and a laundry) on our property. They completed the job in 5.5 months, which is amazing in and of itself. But what was truly amazing was that every inspector and every visitor with building experience noted the high quality of the work. This combination was possible because the general contractor for Cornerstone, or one of the other core people was on site every day, and not for part of the day, but for the whole day. So, they really oversaw every step of the construction, which ensured both the efficiency and the quality. Throughout the process, the communication was good. We spoke with the contractor almost every day. He was clear about timelines, and he made sure we were part of the decision-making process as the project progressed. If you have done any kind of project like this, you know that there are a thousand decisions to make and an equal number of unanticipated problems to solve. We felt included, heard, and respected throughout the process, and we really felt like we were working as a team. Although it seems like you should be able to say this about every business, it's not a cliche when I say that we felt like they cared. They cared about our project. They cared about us. They cared about the quality of the interactions they had with us. Because they take real pride in their work and because they care about their professional reputation. Finally, we found it incredible that they went less than 3% over budget on the whole project! And the overruns were on two items that were absolutely outside Cornerstone's control. Their bid and their budget were remarkably accurate.
